This is where Mary Ellen and family lived when they first moved back to Lancashire. Ramsbottom was primarily a cotton-spinning town. Mary Ellen's daughters Dorothy and Louisa were both employed as cotton spinners.
The family later moved to the larger mill town of Chadderton, Oldham.
Stan Howarth, grandson of Mary Ellen, recalls:
"Grandma Henderson's house was 85, Wellington Street, Chadderton. The address where I was born was I think number 87, Wellington Street. I think the family moved next door because it was slightly bigger in some way.
We lived with Grandma Henderson until she died and we eventually moved to the chip shop in Glodwick because my Dad had been out of work for 3 years I think when the mill closed down. Mum's sisters lent my Dad the money to rent the Chippy in Glodwick and so they came with us to Formby in June 1936."
